The Interview
1. Tell us about yourself and how you started in voiceover.
I am Oladeinde Toluwani, a multifaceted creative. I am a voiceover artist, content creator, creative director, and event host. I am currently in my final year at the University of Lagos, studying Human Resource Management. I consider myself vibrant, resourceful, and humorous. I am a Christian, I love dogs, and I have a great enthusiasm for fashion.
I started voiceovers back in 2021 as an outspoken young girl in my church, serving in the media department. My church (The Newspring Church) gave me a solid platform to explore my multiple talents. They saw my gift and provided me with numerous opportunities to put myself out there. Special shoutout to Bro Lanre, Olamide, and Ogo for coaching me and playing a vital role in my growth.
2. What inspired you to pursue this career?
When I was younger, I used to mimic radio presenters and broadcasters, often talking with funny accents. As I grew older, I knew I had to be in the media industry. Although I am still building my brand, I find fulfillment in being here.
3. Who has inspired you the most in the voiceover industry?
Tolulope Kolade (Tcode) and Oduwole Bayo! They are absolutely brilliant! Every time I hear their work, I am in awe!
4. What kind of voiceover work excites you the most?
I enjoy explainer voiceovers and IVR voiceovers the most.
5. How have you been improving your skills?
YouTube is literally my best friend! π I watch tons of tutorials for tips, and I am also taking a voiceover class hosted by Tcode, which has really helped shape my skill.
6. What challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?
My biggest challenge has been getting proper equipment and finding good voiceover-friendly studios. While these issues are still a work in progress, things are much better than before.
7. What are your career goals in the VO industry?
I aim to become one of the top female voiceover artists in Nigeria, with a fully equipped home studio where I can express myself to the fullest.
8. Whatβs the most ridiculous fee youβve ever accepted for a voiceover project, and how did it happen?
I once accepted β¦10,000 for a voiceover gig! At the time, I just wanted to prove myself, not realizing I was being underpaid. But now that I know my worth, thereβs no looking back! π
9. Have you ever worked with an annoying or overly demanding client? Tell us your most unforgettable ordeal!
Thankfully, I havenβt (yet)! All my clients have been wonderfulβexcept, of course, the ones who paid me β¦10k. π
10. What advice would you give to other upcoming voiceover artists?
Keep putting yourself out there! If all you have is your phone to record, use it! Soon, youβll have access to better resources and the right community. Everything you dream of is real and attainable. See you at the top! π
11. Where can people find your work and connect with you?
You can find me mainly on TikTok and Instagram at @toluwapops and @thepopseffect.
