From Lagos to Johannesburg – Africa’s Voiceover Scene Comes Alive | Ep 26

Welcome to Episode 26 of This Week in the Voiceverse, your weekly digest of all that’s making waves in the African and global voiceover space. Hosted by Tcode, this episode delivers a mix of celebration, industry growth, and fresh opportunities for every voice artist looking to level up.
We kick things off with a warm Happy New Month to our Voiceverse family!
October brings a new Voice of the Month—Fiyinfoluwa Akinremi, known as @voicedbyaf. A dynamic vocal creative whose work spans radio, event hosting, and voiceovers, Fiyinfoluwa embodies versatility and flair. You can learn more about her story and how to become the next Voice of the Month at voiceverseng.com.
This week also celebrates a new milestone in Nigerian animation. “Stay Dry,” a vibrant Afrocentric 3D film, has just premiered on VirtX-TV YouTube. Featuring voices like Daniel Etim Effiong, Maryjane Universal, Lydian John, and Nnanna Kama, the film pushes creative boundaries and showcases Africa’s storytelling power through animation.
Meanwhile, history unfolds in Johannesburg as the South African Voiceover Awards make their grand debut at the Indaba Hotel, Sandton. Organized by The Voiceover Factory, this event honors excellence across 15 categories, from commercials and audiobooks to e-learning and multilingual performances. A huge congratulations to all the nominees and winners setting a new benchmark for the industry.
From there, we head to Ghana, where Prince Dan-Vessel and the Ghana Voice Actors Community have launched VO Launchpad GH, the country’s first structured voiceover training program. Kicking off October 25th, this five-weekend virtual bootcamp offers practical coaching from top Ghanaian and U.S. voice directors—ideal for talents aiming to build portfolios in commercial, audiobook, and animation voice acting.
We also highlight Getlit Africa’s Storytelling Competition, themed “Art in Words.” It’s open to spoken word artists, actors, and content creators who can craft stories inspired by a single image. With $1,000 in cash prizes, online masterclasses featuring Charles Inojie and Iyanu Adebiyi, plus a Lagos meet-and-greet, this is an unmissable opportunity. The deadline is October 19th via getlitafrica.com.
Finally, the countdown is on to VOAfrica 2025, happening October 9–11. As Africa’s largest voiceover conference, this virtual gathering promises powerhouse sessions, panels, and global networking for anyone serious about advancing their VO career. Secure your ticket at voafrica.com.
