The buzz around African animation has been impossible to miss, and if you’ve been keeping tabs, chances are you’ve already heard about ‘Iyanu’.

The movie was created by award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Roye Okupe. Iyanu follows a young girl in the mythical land of Yorubaland who discovers she has extraordinary powers. Joined by her friends, she embarks on a journey to uncover her origins and confront an ancient curse threatening humanity. This is an adaptation from the hit graphic novel, Iyanu: Child of Wonder. The film blends African culture and adventure.
Now, this groundbreaking story is making its way to the big screen, and you can watch it for free at the Pan African Film Festival ArtFEST. Yes, you heard that right. The premiere takes place on Saturday, August 23, at 1:00 PM at Cinemark Baldwin Hills Crenshaw + XD, followed by a question-and-answer session with the creators.
